Gold award for Glebe

After success in the regional festival of the National Concert Band Festival (NCBF) we were invited to go to the finals on the 18th April 2009, this year held at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in Cardiff, Wales.

We were awarded a Gold award in the open section of the festival. Judges Simone Rebello, one of the UK’s leading percussionists, and John Reynolds, Head of Woodwind Studies at the Welsh College of Music and Drama were impressed by the band’s programme and performance commenting that we were “a band really worth listening to”. Our programme consisted of 3 pieces opening with Madrigalum by Philip Sparke, followed by Cat Skills from East Coast Pictures by Nigel Hess and we concluded with Dawn Flight by Philip Wilby.

The NCBF festival allows over 5,000 musicians from the UK to participate in a range of regional heats, all with the aim of reaching the NCBF Final, this year held on 18th and 19th April in Cardiff.
